I was really surprised today when I opened an email from Olga Oasis. She wants to be the shop correspondent. Yippee!!!! If someone wants to research classes & new products in the shop I'll be glad to print the news for you. She must be spending lots of time in the shop & on the website. No one has approached me wanting this job so I guess she wants to keep herself or himself a secret.
Here's all the information that she has gathered & wants me to provide to you.
Dear Oasis Quilters:
Let me introduce myself, I am Olga Oasis and you will be hearing from me on, hopefully, a regular basis as to the goings on at A Quilters Oasis. Some of you long time customers may remember me as I greeted you from the front window until I retired (or was I retired?). Nevertheless, I am back as your Quilting Correspondent, here to bring you the news and views from the Oasis.
What’s new, pussycat??
Lots of great books, that’s what! Here are just a few:

Almost another month has passed since I've written. I couldn't sleep so thought I'd catch up on a few things.
Hope all of you had a fun Halloween. Bob & I spent the evening with our neighbors out on their driveway. Had a nice dinner, socialized and handed out candy to trick or treaters. It was fun to catch up with the neighbors.
Novembers here and we are preparing for the holidays. The Arizona weather isn't much help in getting us into the Holiday mood, with temps in the 90's it's hard to think of Fall. I'm not complaining, I'd rather have it warm than cold, rainy, or snowy. That's why we are welcoming back our winter residence. They know a good thing (rather place) to be.
So WELCOME BACK to all. We at the shop are looking forward to hearing about &/or seeing your summer projects. It is always fun to hear what you have been doing.
We've had an overwhelming positive response to our re-model. It really is more open & bright shop. I really like being able to see all the samples on the walls, it's very inspiring. Thanks for all the compliments.
Regarding the Holidays.
We've added some great classes to make a great NOEL wall hanging and some fun quick napkins. Both would spruce up your holiday decorating and make great quick gifts. Mardi Norwood is teaching both classes. She's alot of fun and a really great teacher.
Make a note on your calendars of our Holiday Hours:
Thanksgiving: Closing Wednesday November 25th at 1pm
Closed Thanksgiving Day November 26th
Christmas: Closing Thursday December 24th at 1pm
Closed Christmas Weekend Friday December 25th through Sunday December 27th
New Year: Closing Thursday December 31st at 3pm
Closed New Year Weekend: January 1st through January 3rd.
So the staff & I can enjoy the holidays with family & friends.
I just completed updating the calendar on the website so make sure to check it out. I've listed (at least I think) everything that will be happening at the shop till the end of the year and into February. I've listed dates for sales, all the club meetings.
Next Friday is our first Civil War club meeting. I've been reading about the women of the South, boy is it interesting. I never thought I'd be reading historical books & enjoying it. What a interesting but tragic time both in the countries history and in women's history. Boy would my old history teachers be shocked! These reproduction fabrics are fabulous in color, print and design. Cindy Osburn has gotten our first quilt pieced and it is beautiful! I'm looking forward to the club; meeting everyone, sharing information, and show and tell.
Talking about clubs. the applique club is inspiring! Each of the ladies are working on such different projects it's exciting to see the embroidery, the various applique techniques, best of all I enjoy watching the ladies socialize. There's room, so if you love that handwork come see what the clubs all about.

Here is a picture of the applique Block of the Month pattern. The meeting/class for this starts next Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning. November 10th/11th. You just need to come to one of the sessions.
Marion has done a great job on this quilt. There is still plenty of room & we've got several patterns still available.
Fabric: OH MY GOSH!! The UPS driver has been delivering everyday. Boxes of new fabrics, from Civil War to Retro prints are being put on our shelves. We just got in a new line from Andover called Girl Friday, it's from Cosmo Cricket. Oversized Alphabet letters tossed on a white background, and the coordinating prints. It's just FUN!!
Toast II from Jo Morton is just getting put out on the shelf.
Great black & whites from Blank designed by Heidi Pridemore (local fabric & pattern designer)
We also just received a huge delivery on batting so if you need a package or two, we've got it in stock.
Well it's now 6:15am & I better get going so I can get to the shop.
Have a Great Day!

Getting Caught UP
It's been sometime since I've sat down & written. I've wanted to "blog" weekly but somehow the days are filled & the next thing you know it's been a month.
This is never what I intended. So let's see if I can catch up with everything that has been going on; without writing a book.
First let me thank everyone for all your prayers for my son Nick. He became very ill with viral meningitis & I flew to Austin to help my daughter in law; Michelle with Nick and my two grandchildren; Killian (4) & Addison (AJ, 2). I forgot how busy 2 small children can keep you. Between making sure no one else got sick (lots of hand sanitizer). By the time the week was done my hands were so dry; reminded me of my days back working at the hospital.
My daughter in law did come down with a viral cold but we were able to keep the kids healthy.
Not sure how we did that! Anyway, Nick & Michelle are tired but getting back to everyday routine. Let me just say; Mom/Grandma is glad to be back home & getting back into my regular routine..
Shop Hop 2009 was lots of fun; seeing quilters from around the county/state. It was fun to get to see/meet enthusiastic quilters. We demo'd another fantastic product The Clearly Perfect Angles. It's an vinyl cling that goes on your sewing machine to sew 45 degree angles. No mark method for half square triangles, flying geese, snowball blocks. If any of you remember the Angler 2?? This is an update & user friendly tool.
If you haven't seen it make sure to ask us next time you come in. This is a real time saver & very accurate!!!
Congratulations to the winners:
Grand Prize Bernina 230 Black Pearl Edition Machine: Janet Garber
$100.00 Gift Certificate

Bearly Stitchin' - Barbara Thomas

Last time I wrote we were in the beginning phase of our re-model. Well it's DONE (for 5 weeks) & it is FANTASTIC! I'm not just saying that (I'm a bit bias in my opinion). We get compliments from customers everyday on our new look.
