Couldn't Sleep Last Night

Wide awake at 3am! So what does one do at that time of the morning so not to wake the hubby?
Well, I went to the computer & after getting some much needed shop business taken care of.
I went to The Quilt Show website and watched the videos they had posted. Boy can you learn a lot from this site.
As many of you know I'm a true believer in spray basting to get your quilt prepared for quilting & I really like the 505 product.
So what did I come upon? A video all about spray basting. So I'd thought I would share it with you.
Here is the link, you will need to copy it & paste it to your browser:
http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/blog.php/blog_id/4081#ooid=U5OWg4MTriV_mTUcQJq89ZwWRk9lByI3

Now to get ready to go into the shop. Hope you all have a great day.

The fabric a comic strip storyline based on quilting, it has us laughing out loud.
A panel with Earl and Opal, funny statements about quilting and fabric shopping. The coordinates are bright and cheerful.

Civil War Club 9/9/11

Thank you Karen Housner for such a special treat, the antique quilts you shared with the Civil War group were absolutely wonderful. The quilts dated from 1850 to 1930/1940. The creativity of the quiltmakers from the 19th century was truly amazing. Considering how these quilts must have been constructed, the hexagon quilt with it's fabulous design. It is sad that the person who
constructed this work of art is totally unknown.

For this reason Karen encouraged us to label all of our creations, no matter the size.
Several of the club members brought their antique quilt treasures. It was interesting to hear some of the quilts stories. Thank you ladies for sharing your quilts with the group.

Indian Summer from Riley Blake Designs:

These are just a few of these very fun prints in the Indian Summer line. We have pre-cuts; Layer cakes (10 inch squares), charms (5 inch squares), & Jelly rolls.

Batiks are full & the array of colors are beautiful. I just can't get enough of these fabulous fabrics. I have become totally addicted to them.

August Civil War Club Meeting

Today our Civil War Club met; what a fun bunch of ladies. It was a smaller group than usual as several members were lucky enough to be on vacation or up at a Quilt Retreat. We discussed what we will be doing at the next few meetings. I could not believe we started to talk about our meeting in December! How fast the months are passing.
I'll share what is upcoming for the next two meetings:
In September Karen Housner will be sharing her "old" quilts with us & sharing her knowledge of dating quilts with us. Karen is a AQS Certified Quilt Appraiser. If you are interested in attending this meeting but not a regular member please contact the store to let us know you'd like to join us. The meeting will be Friday September 9th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is just $5.00. In October we will be doing some hand sewing of Hexagons. In the book, Civil War Sewing Circle that we are currently using in the club. There is a small quilt that features 9 Grandmother's Flowers. We will be making one of the flowers that day during our meeting. We always have Show n Tell: now the quilts & projects do not always have to be Civil War projects. We quilter's love to look at any quilt related item in any fabric or style. So here are some of the items that were shared today.

Jeannie sha
red a double diamond ruler table runner in Halloween fabrics & some whimsical place-mats ants with BBQ treats.

Sue Williams shared 3 projects that she has d
one since our last meeting. This triangle quilt was her own design; she was one of the participants in our friendship triangle exchange last fall.
What a bea
utiful creation from 2 inch half square triangles.

The next
quilt pattern designed by Kim Diehl; one of Sue's favorite designers.
Sue also, used a fabric line designed by Kim.
Sue did a fabulous needle turn applique on the border.

Sue found the quilt in the photo to the left on Moda Bakesh
op. The pattern used a layer cake & she did machine applique on this one!
The next photo is the back of the quilt
& hopefully you can see how beautifully Sue quilted it!!

Until next time Happy Quilting everyone.

Annual Quilt Retreat

What a wonderful weekend the staff & I had. This is the retreat group.
It was filled with LOTS of sewing, some un-sewing, several completed quilt tops, totes, bags, pillowcases, pillow covers, table toppers.
This is the beautiful room we spent most of our days in. SEWING!!!
Here are some photos so you can see what we accomplished.
Terri Teeple's Charm Square Table Topper
Teresa Brook's Field of Flowers using a Bali Pop.
Lorrie Danowski used the mini Twister & made 4 place-mats with Christmas fabric.
Michele Klein used a charm pack & made this cute mini quilt with the 5 Inch Twister.
Harriet Cheek was the most productive out of all of us. This is an embroidery that she framed to make a throw pillow for Christmas.
Our nature lesson:
This is one of the many animals that we saw while spending a great weekend in Pine. Each evening at dinner we had 3 deer come into the yard. What a treat it was to watch these animals.
One lesson I learned; never leave your camera charger at home, my battery went dead on Friday so I don't have pictures of everyone. I hope to get some from the ladies. I hope you enjoyed sharing in a bit of our retreat.
Big thank you to Breath of Life Retreat; Candy, Jim, Sharon, Zelma, & Priscilla for a wonderful weekend filled with great food, lots of laughs, and best of all socializing with friends.

Photos

What a wonderful thing when you can figure out technology without the help of a computer wiz.
I finally was able to download all the pictures from the new camera. It took me just a few times to try & then it went really easy. The hard part is getting all the pictures organized into correct files. Hopefully, I'll be able to find all of them. I want to share some of the great quilts that customers have brought in for show n tell.
Also, want to keep you up to date with our Block of the Month, clubs, and classes.
Designer Pam McMahon reveals her new pattern Pieceful Journey Block of the Month.

Charlene O'Connell shares her Tree of Life Quilt; project she made using the half square triangles from our fall 2010 Triangle exchange.
I'll share more quilts/photos later.
Hope you enjoy seeing them as much as the staff & I do.
